Membership in the 'private' area of the Anthonians web site is intended to provide a space and forum for those associated with St Anthony's Home for Girls to interact without exposing personal or sensitive information and identifying photographs to the general public. It is intended as a means of sharing with those to whom they have affiliation and already trust.
Members have access to the following benefits:
Password-protected members area: To access the Members area you have to enter a username and password. The members directories are protected on the server rather than in the HTML-script. Each member selects a unique user name and password for access.
Directory: The alumni of St Anthony has been dispersed all over the world and we have lost contact with many of our friends. Working together, it is hoped that we can begin to compile a directory of as many former friends as we can, and post them in the Member's Area for your benefit.
Each Directory-entry can have a bio and photo gallery attached to it, as well as current (or last- known) contact information. Information that is entered in the bios and photo galleries is entirely up to the discretion of the member.
POP3 Mail Account with Anthonians.org: The orphans of Anthonians.org are also eligible for a FREE E-mail account with us. Like Yahoo©, Hotmail©, and other Web-based e-mail systems, you can access your e-mail account from any computer in the world via the Internet Explorer©, Netscape Navigator©, or Opera© browsers and an Internet connection. Unlike the above free, web-based e-mail systems, we do not place any advertising in the e-mail you sent from your account. There are no restrictions on size, attachments, or content of your mail account.
Your e-mail account is a true POP3 mailbox; which means that you can use your favorite e-mail client (like Outlook© or Eudora©) to download your e-mail to read, respond, and save it offline. Web- based e-mail system like Yahoo© or Hotmail© charge extra to allow you POP3-access to your e-mail. Extra Anthonian.org POP3 accounts are available for a small fee.
Discussion Board: A discussion board allows members to post comments for others to read and possibly, post a follow-up to that message. The discussion board is visible to all members (not the public) and makes a great forum where you can start a dialog on a subject and have any replies and follow-ups grouped together with that particular thread. As membership and interaction among the members grows, we will consider upgrading to a full-fledged, multi-threaded discussion board.
A discussion board is much like the guest book except in its' threading capability to keep all messages and follow-ups together for easier reading. Also, the guest book is public . . . the discussion board can only be accessed by the members.
Real-Time Chat Room: Catch fellow members online in the chat room . . . or arrange to meet there to chat in real-time. The chat room is a private, java-room accessible only to members.
Personal Directory within the Members Area: Since this site is all about sharing amongst the Anthonians, each member will have an area set off where she can put up photo galleries of herself and family, her interests, or pretty much anything she would like to share with her fellow Anthonians.
Space for Personal Web Pages: If you already have your own web site, we can set it up so that visitors can link to it from our public (or members only) pages or provision for your pages to be displayed in our frames.
If you don't have a web site and want one hosted by Anthonians.org, we can provide you space and a named directory (such as www.anthonians.org/~chato) to publish your pages. Member web pages must meet with our approval for objectionable content prior to being published. Secure FTP access is also provided to allow you to update your personal web pages.
Membership is a privilege . . . not a right. In practice, any person who meets our criteria will become a de'facto member of Anthonians.org upon request. However, the owner of this web site reserves the right to refuse membership (or to terminate membership) if, in her sole discretion, membership or continued membership is detrimental to the best interests of the other members.
Eligibility may take many forms such as:
Orphans or those who lived at St Anthony: This site is dedicated to the orphans or residents who lived at St Anthony's Home for Girls during any period of time from 1931 to the closing of the Home. They are members by default (once they provide proof of identity).
Students coincidental with St Anthony: Many of our childhood friends attended Our Lady of Loreto on-premises with us during the day. Although not orphans or live-in residents (as they went home to their families each night), their activities were so co-mingled with ours as to make us almost indistinguishable. The invitation to membership goes out to them as well.
Resident Staff: The nuns, priests, laity, teachers, nurses, and staff were our family. Anthonians.org would be incomplete without them.
All Others: Based on how much impact you had in our lives. Visiting nuns and priests are part of our extended family and we often have fond memories of them. Benefactors gave for many reasons and we remember some of them especially and extend the hand of renewed acquaintance and membership on a case-by-case basis.
In general, if you have a substantial impact or interest on the activities of St Anthony's, you are welcome.
Your privacy is very important to us! Therefore, you control all aspects of just what information is published. On the public side of the web site, nothing of an identifying nature will be displayed (or available). Images posted are archival in nature and dating back twenty or more years. We will not allow any present-day last names, addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, or any recent photograph to be published on the public site that is viewable by the general public!
The members section is password protected and only those we have invited will be allowed to view information and images posted there. Members control every aspect of what information is allowed, as we all have personal reasons why some information must be withheld. No unauthorized biographies or listings of members will be allowed without reviewing and obtaining permission first, if appropriate.
As for information available and privy to the webmaster, absolutely no information will be provided, resold, or given in any fashion to an outside party unless legal authority compels us to do so. Members found to be violating the terms or spirit of our privacy policy will be dismissed from membership. We reserve the right to take appropriate legal actions.
Members will be responsible for their user names and passwords, and for the use of their e-mail account. A more comprehensive privacy policy is available on the members section . . . but suffice it to say, your reasonably assured privacy is what makes the member interaction possible.
